On a bitter cold morning in Belfast Harbor, Maine, when the temperature is minus 10-15 degrees, the warmer ocean water condenses and forms “sea smoke”. The water vapor disappears when the sun warms up the air sufficiently.
Lovely website, this shot in particular is very inspiring. Love the way you’ve captured the old boats in the fog/mist. Thanks for stopping by my site, i agree that Black and White shots capture a unique perspective…sometimes lost in colour!
thank you so much for your kind words about my images. it means a lot when another photographer likes your work. your work is certainly nothing to scoff at and the sea smoke is gorgeous; it only reinforces my desire to move there some day.
I am working in B&W also. I used to work in it more, but just lately have rediscovered the beauty of B&W. When time permits, I will put up some images. I LOVE the ships in the fog. Nice work. The barn window image file size is too large. You need to cut the size down so it can viewed in the screen. I will stop by again.
Your work is beautiful! I love what you’ve done with the shells as well. I experimented with gelatins on such surfaces as metal and wood but never got results as stunning as yours. I’ve been messing around with color film lately but b&w has always been my roots. You do inspire me to get out my Pentacon Six and shoot some b&w I wish I could travel to the locations your shooting at. Hope you keep it up.
About Me
After working as a research professor in molecular biology, I chose B/W photography as a second career. I use Mamiya medium format cameras and Kodak PX 125 film. Although I print digitally [Epson 2400] onto fine art paper, much of my work deals with silver gelatin printing onto glass, stones, shells, and other three dimensional objects. Both of these printing surfaces [paper vs. 3D] require very different types of photographs.
Beautiful work! Thanks for the comment on my blog – looking forward to seeing more of your photos!
Nice photos mate. Black and white can be quite effective! Good luck with the blog.
