Nightlights are a common home lighting solution for low intensity room illumination. I have made these featuring my B/W photos of Maine tall ships, and photographs I have taken of paintings by Lansdowne. I begin with a shadowbox having a 6×6″ opening, and use a photograph printed directly on a 6×6″ glass plate as the featured image. At the back I glue in place a white 3528 LED light strip around the inside, and cover with black mat board. The LED strip is soldered to a 12V power supply that is interconnected to a dimmer switch. The LED has a life expectancy of approximately 50,000 hours, or 10 years even when turned on 12 hours/day.
